This pattern is designed for those with intermediate sewing abilities. The Aspen Crossbody Bag is a fun bag to wear and a fun bag to make! The front pocket, with its flap closure, offers the perfect place to feature one of your favorite fabrics and it functions well too - it is a perfect place to put your cell phone keeping it easily accessible. The zipper above the front pocket is another fun place to add a pop of color! There is one slip pocket in the lining of the Aspen Crossbody Bag. To keep everything on the interior of a bag secure, I like being able to close my bags with a zipper and the Aspen Crossbody has a recessed zipper to do just that. The small Aspen Crossbody is perfect for someone who doesn't like carrying a lot of extras, but needs room for a wallet, phone and a few other items. It will carry enough to take on a day of running errands or a casual date with friends. The large Aspen Crossbody is a great bag for a mom who needs to not only carry the essentials for herself, but some extras for kiddos too. It is a nice size bag without being too large to still work as a crossbody.

Finished Size:  (approximate measurements)

Small:  9” (23 cm) wide at widest part, 7” (18 cm) high at highest part, 2½” (6 cm) deep at bottom

Large:  11½” (29 cm) wide at widest part, 9½” (24 cm) high at highest part, 3½” (9 cm) deep at bottom

Materials Needed:

For the Aspen Crossbody pictured in this pattern, I used linen for the exterior fabric. I used quilting cotton for the coordinating fabric and the lining fabric. The amounts given are for 44" wide fabric. 

Exterior Main Fabric: 1 yard

Coordinating Fabric:  ¼ yard or a fat quarter

Lining Fabric:  ½ yard

Scrap Fabric: 10" square (this will not be seen)

50” wide fusible fleece: ½ yard OR FF77 (Flex Foam): 1 yard

20” wide fusible woven mid-weight interfacing (Pellon Shape-Flex 101):  3 yards (3½ yards if using FF77 instead of fusible fleece)

Peltex 70: 1/8 yard

Small:  12” zipper (main closure zipper) & 10" zipper (exterior zipper pocket)

Large:  16" zipper (main closure zipper) & 12" zipper (exterior zipper pocket)

9/16" (14 mm) slim magnetic snap

2 - 1” rectangular rings

1 - 1" strap slider

Thread

Double-Sided Tape (¼” wide) or fabric glue

Water-soluble erasable marking pen or chalk pencil

Fray Check (optional)
